Drew Graduates From Taylor

This is a big weekend for the Rogers family as Drew is graduating from Taylor High School in Katy, Texas. Next year Drew will be joining his older sister Paige as a student at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Ok. Go Pokes!!!! This also means that Dad gets another cut in pay.

As a Dad I am proud of my boy. Every Dad wants his son to be better than he is. Drew is well on his way. He is graduating from Taylor with honors and his dad did not know how to spell the word. My time in high school was far less productive than Drew's. He is everything that I hoped he would be.

Drew is a man of few words but has a dry keen sense of humor. He is also one of the kindest and most considerate individuals I know. His mom and I will miss he and his friends greatly. The house will be too quite. But I look forward to seeing he and his friends take that next step in life.

I love Drew, you will do well.

"Gorebal Warming"

Al Gore wants all of us to change our lifestyle to curb global warming. We all must scarifice. Let's see how the former VP has stepped up to the plate and reduced his carbon footprint.

For a little insight let's look at an article published by the Tennessee Center for Research on how Mr. Gore is doing.

"Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006."

According to a Rasmussen Poll the current American Presidential Candidates have the following favorability ratings:

Rudy Guiliani 70%
Barack Obama 55%
John McCain 54%
Hillary Clinton 50%

This doesn't mean the that voters would vote for the candidates by the same percentages, it is just how they are viewed by the public. However it is interesting to ponder.

Snowman In To Remove Abdomenial Growth

The AP wire reported today that White House Press Secretary Tony Snow will undergo surgery Monday to remove a growth in his lower abdomen. Two years ago Snow had his colon removed after he was diagnosed with cancer. Snow said that the procedure was being done "out of an aggressive sense of caution".

He indicated that test since the growth was discovered have been negative. Mr Snow's announcement came a day after Elizabeth Edwards reported that her cancer had returned.

It goes without saying that we all wish Snow and Edwards well.

Great Global Warming Swindle

Edwards Presidential Campaign Suffer A Set Back

John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth announced from Chapel Hill, NC, today that her cancer has returned. Based on her announcement it sounds as if the cancer is located in one of her ribs. They have been advised by her doctor that campaigning with her husband will not affect her treatment or health. As such Mr Edwards plans to continue his campaign for US president.

One has to wonder the kind emotional toll that his wife's battle with cancer will have on him and whether at some point the campaign will become just to much.

Johnathan Bruda

Johnathan Bruda a Junior at Taylor High School and a member of the cross country team died this Friday after a light work out at the school track. A cause of death has not been determined as of yet.

My son Drew is a senior at Taylor and while he did not know Johnathan his death did have an impact on him as it did on all students.

Young people feel so invincible that they have no sense of their own mortality. Johnathan's death reminds them and all of us that life is so fraigle. There is no certainty in life for any of us. So we must enjoy every minute and recognize the things that are really important.

Often we find ourselves ruled by the urgency of the daily events of the day that we miss life all together. We forget to take time to hug our family members and enjoy our friends. We forget to take time to reach out to those in need. Most importantly we forget to humble ourselves and honor our God.

If Jhonathan's death makes us all pause to realize these things the something positive can be gained from a tragic event.

PAC 10 Agrees Sooners Hometowned

Jeff Latzke in an AP story reports that PAC 10 officals found merit in OU's complaint of poor officiating in their loss against Oregon and have agreed to suspend the officiating team for one game.

"Errors clearly were made and not corrected, and for that we apologize to the University of Oklahoma, coach Bob Stoops and his players," said PAC 10 Comissioner Tom Hansen. Hansen also said "they played an outstanding college football game, as did Oregon, and it is regrettable that the outcome of the contest was affected by the officiating."

The blown call was regarding an Oregon onside kick that did not travel the required 10 yards before a Ducks' player recovered the ball. The officals awarded Oregon the ball when it should have been first down Sooners. Matters were made worst by a pass interference call on OU when clearly there was none.

OU officals are trying to have the results of the game nullified but so far have been unsuccessful.

It is PAC 10's policy that out of conference games played in the Pacfic conference will be officate by PAC 10 officials. Sounds like to me that creates a situation where a non_PAC 10 team could be Homered.
