Harriet Who

On Monday October 3, President Bush picked White House counsel Harriet Miers to take Sandra Day O'Connor's position on the US Supreme Court. The re-frame from many social conservatives was why and who is she. There is very little paper trail that she has that would point to an underlying judical philosophy. This maybe the reason she was appointed because she was safe. After all without a paper trail how would Senate Democrates find fodder for opposing her.

Many social conservatives feel that the President betrayed them by not picking a known social conservative to fill the remaining position on the Court. This feeling exposes an attitude of mistrust that they had have of the President in that " he is really not one of us".

Additionally, many conservatives feel that the President has had his nose blooded by criticism from the" left" over the war in Iraq, his response to Katrina and the Delay indictment and now has no stomach for a fight over a judical nominee.

Most people do not like the unknown and conservatives are no different. However with a little patience they may find out that the Miers nomination gives them exactly what they want without the Senatorial fight.
