President Bush Comes Out Swing

During Monday's press conference, President Bush came out swing. He called the leak of the NSA eavesdropping program by the New York Time last week a "shameful act" in a time of war. "The fact that we are discussing this program is helping the enemy" President Bush told reporters. He also said that the "program has targeted those with known links to Al Qaeda"

President Bush also let reporters know that the Justice Department will likely investigate who leaked information about the NSA program.

The President also pointed out he had the legal authority to order the surveillance under Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution giving the President the authorization to deal with an enemy who declares war against the United States. The President noted that a phone call from someone in Al Qaeda here to someone in Al Qaeda overseas could cost thousands of American lives.

The President pointed out that the 9/11 Commission said that the intelligence community needs to better connect the dots before the enemy strikes again. That is what the NSA program was trying do.

In my opinion it was nice to see the President fighting back against those who are more interested in bring him down rather than protecting the country. Keep at it Mr. President.

Scruffdog -

I'm with you - and I'm glad to see him react to this nonsense now.

Here is a reality check:

--Wasn't it the NYT (and other liberal media) who cried foul over the "outing of covert CIA operative" Valerie Plame? Where is their outrage over this leak? The Able Danger cover-up?

--Following the 9-11 Commission Report, wasn't it the NYT (and other liberal media) who accused President Bush of not doing enough to protect us? And now they are ANGRY because he is protecting us TOO MUCH!?

As the President said in his radio address, and again today during his candid press conference, his job is to protect us to his best ability and within the bounds of law. It would seem to me that he is doing just that.

The job of the New York Times, and other newspapers, is supposed to be bringing new information to the masses - hence the word NEWS. And there is nothing new about this year old story being used as a political grenade - that may in fact ultimately harm those who pay to read it.

Thanks for the comment Timmer. It is time to put the media in their place.
