Carville Said Blanco Did Well In Katrina Disaster

In an interview this week with Channel 2 News in Baton Rouge, James Carville, the "motor mouth" of the Democatic Party, was reported as saying that Louisana Gov. Kathleen Blanco handled the Katrina disaster well. To be more specific Carville said Blanco did as well as she could under the circumstances.

I think the operative part of the "ragin cajin's" statement was "as well as she could". Another way to interpret that part of the statement is that Gov. Blanco did the best she could with her abilities. In her cases the Governor has demonstrated that her leadership and decision making abilities were limted or incompetent at best. During most of the disaster she looked like a "deer caught in the headlights", unsure and indecisive. Her indecision cost people their lives.

In the same interview Carville tries to provided the Governor some cover by saying "once your under water your kind of doomed". "A flood is a hard thing to look good in." Well maybe the Governor could have minimized the effects of a flooded New Orleans by adequately planning for such disaster and executing the plan. After all it has been known for years that New Orleans was vunerable to massive flooding as the result of a strike from a class three or stronger hurricane. It is ultimately a state Governor's responsibility to protect state citizens and Blanco failed miserably.

Mr Carville statements are far from the truth. As we say in Texas, "that dog won't hunt".
