Lynn Swann Announces He Will Run for PA. Governor

Lynn Swann, former Steeler receiver and Hall of Famer, announced Wednesday that he will seek the Republican nomination for the Pennsylvania governor's office. Swann will have to face 3 other candidates for the Republican nomination in a May 16 primary.

The former footbal star told the Associated Press, in an interview on Wednesday, that he decided to run in the fall after weighing support at different events around the state.

If he wins the Republican nomination in May, he would likely face Governor Ed Rendell ( D ) who is likely to seek a second four year term.

If elected Swann would be the state's first black Governor.
