LSU 19 Arkansas 17

I played golf with a couple buddies of mine on Monday. During the round, a single golfer "hooked up" with us on the back nine. I noticed that they guy was decked out in University of Georgia garb. We started talking SEC football and then he proceeded to tell me that if LSU made it to Atlanta to play Georgia in the SEC championship game the Bulldogs would beat LSU by at least 6. He was sort of one of these young cocky frat boy types that was really full of himself. That in itself was enough to tick me off. I looked at him and said "just wait a minute sonny I believe you are getting a little ahead of yourself". After all LSU is ranked 3 and Georgia 13 in the polls.

Well the way the Tigers played today it looked like they were getting a little ahead of themselves. Simple put they did not take Arkansas seriously enough. Les and the boys nearly "pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory". In my opinion it was a poor Tiger effort. They can not play the way they did today and beat Georgia in the SEC championship. What will be worst is the cocky little prick I played golf with will be right.

Thank goodness there was not over time today because LSU would have been upset by a very young but promising Arkansas team. I guess somedays it is better to be "lucky than good".

So Long TO

The NFL arbitrator ruled that the Philadelphia Eagles were well within their rights to suspend wide receiver Terrill Owens for four games and deactivate him for the rest of the year. I am sure that after the season the Eagles will look to trade T.O. The real question is who would want to take him. He certainly is a gifted player but what team would want the extra baggage that comes along with him.

Owens will never be a Hall Famer or great player because he does not realize that the game is about more than just raw talent, it is about greatness and selflessness on and off the field. These qualities were demostrated like such greats as Gayle Sayers, Walter Peyton and Reggie White. T.O. has no idea what these qualities or men were all about.

"Kudos" to the Eagles for taking a stand, somethings are about just more than winning.

Myth and Reality

Lately the oil industry has rally been taking it in the chin. Some of it is because the industry has not done an adequate job educating the public about the energy business. It's negative image has been further reinfirced by politicians looking for political advantage with a public poorly educated about simply supply and demand economics.

There have many stories in the media about the oil industry's obscene profits. I want to know when profits become obscene, at what point. The media and politicians continue to feed a myth of a runaway industry that manipulate prices to lines their pockets with profits on the backs of middle class America.

Well here are some of the facts:

  • Gasoline prices in the US are determined by supply and demand of crude oil and refined products, plus taxes. Based on a gas pump price of $2.85 the cost of crude oil accounts for about 54 % of the cost per gallon or $1.54. The second component, refining, transportation and marketing account for about 30% of the price or $0.85 based on the $2.85 price. The third element of the price is taxes both state and federal, which average $0.46 nationwide or 16% of the cost of gasoline per gallon.
  • Most Americans believe that the oil industry's profits are obscene and outline with other industries. The facts indicate otherwise, on a dollar for dollar basis the oil industry's profits are generally in line with the average of all U.S. industry. The second quarter of 2005 shows that the oil and gas industry earned 7.7 cents on every sales dollar as compared to an average of 7.9 cents for all of U.S. industry. In comparison the banking industry earned for the same period 19.6 cents on the dollar and the drug industry earned18.6 cents. Also for the same period, the software industry earned 17 cents on the dollar, insurance industry 10.7 cents and telecommunications 9.6.
  • Recently there has been some talk of reviving the windfall profits tax. However according to a 1990 report of the Congressional Research Service the tax drained approximately $79 billion in industry revenues in the 80's that could have been invested in new oil and gas production. The result was domestic production was reduced by as much as 6% and increased foreign imports of oil by 16%.
  • Recent Gulf of Mexico hurricanes have temporarily reduced energy supplies on a significant scale. As of mid-October, approximately 20% of the U.S. refinery capacity was still down or restarting as a result of the damage by Katrina and Rita. Also as of mid-October, the combined production "shut-ins" as a result of the two hurricanes were 19% of U.S. daily crude oil production and 10% of daily natural gas production.
  • Global demand for energy over the past three years has been accelerating while spare production capacity greatly narrowed. Because of growing economies of the U.S., China, India and other countries, the demand for oil has risen at nearly twice the average growth rate over the prior decade. During this same period spare production capacity reached historic lows. Crude prices have risen as a result of these market fundementals.

Does anyone remember politicans being so concerned when the industry was going through rough times about a decade ago. I hope these facts exposes the falsehoods of the myth of "Big Oil".

Oil Industry Taken To Task By Congress

Caption reads:Actually we prefer your industry suffer record losses and you come up here begging for a bail out.

The Wrong Question

I was watching Fox News this morning and E. D. Hill asked a former ambassador to the middle east if the war in Iraq was creating more terrorist. That is like looking at the glass as half empty rather than half full. It is simply the wrong question. What should have been asked was "is the growing democracy in Iraq creating a growing desire for freedom in the region.

Even the terrorist in Iraq know that freedom is the greatest threat to their desire to dominate the region and end the existence of Isreal. Freedom is an innate desire in all people. This is proven by the images of the "purple fingers" of proud Iraqi's shown in their last two elections.

The current regimes in countires like Syria and Iran can not allow democracy in Iraq to flourish, that is the greatest threat to their existence. So they have become the "de facto" sponsors of terrorism in the middle east. In the human spirit freedom triumphs tyranny everytime.

The US and the Iraqi people have established the first "beach head" in the spread of democracy in the middle east. Therefore I would say that the question that Ms. Hill should have asked was "are the days of current regimes of tyranny in region numbered".

LSU 40 OLE MISS 7

My nephew, an Ole Miss alumni, posted on his blog an article entitled "Go to Hell LSU" last week. Well the only thing that resembled hell was the play of the Ole Miss offense. Lets
face it Ole Miss fans have had very little to look forward to each week except the Saturday "tea party" in the Grove. I guess Coach "O" stands for zero talent as a football head coach.

The statistic from the game tell the story. Ole Miss managed to put one score on the board and mount an offensive effort that posted only 175 total yards rushing. You can't win many ball games with that kind of effort.

Ole Miss will be back in the years to come but it will have to be without Coach "O" and his staff.

Democrates and History

Congress Gives Themselves A Pay Raise

Yesterday Congress gave themselves a pay raise. The question is do they really desire it, has their performance measured up. I don't know about most people but my raises are based on merit/performance. If my employer thinks I have performed well they will give me a better raise. If I don't perform I won't be given a raise. It is not an entitlement. I am never asked what my raise should be.

How has Congress performed this year? Let's review:

  • Has Congress done anything to secure our border from illegal immigration and terrorist. Even though there has been a lot of talk about our border problems nothing has been done. Thousand of illegals are still streaming across our borders monthly and the borders remain the soft under belly of American security. Grade F.
  • The President's proposal to fix social security was private investment accounts and social security disparately needs to be fixed. Many of Congress disagreed with the President but what have they offered, absolutely nothing. Let's ignore the problem and maybe it will go away. Grade F.
  • Government spending is out of control and yet Congress has done very little to cut the pork out of the budget and live within the countries means. The answer is not increased taxes but realistic budgets without pork. Grade F.
  • Presenting a unified front on the war on terror. No comment necessary. Grade F.

Congress is always telling us that they are working for the American people. Well ok, then it should be left up to us to vote on their raises. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think Congress' performance has be so bad they should not get a raise for years to come.

LSU Meets Ole Miss In Oxford

LSU plays traditional rival Ole Miss at Oxford this weekend. The Rebs have had tough season this year posting only3 wins in 9 games. At this point the Tigers are in the driver seat to win another SEC West championship but they must not over look Ole Miss and Arkansas. Both teams have played the role of the spoiler for LSU several times in the last few years. The line shows the Tigers have a 14 point edge over the Rebs, but the Rebs have way of playing the Tigers tough. This is not a "give me" game for LSU, but they should win.

Gutless Dean

A gutless Howard Dean, DNC chairman, refuses to appear with Ken Mehlman, RNC chairman, on NBC's Meet the Press. I guess he rather bash the President in a venue where he could not be challenged. Maybe Dr. Deans new name should be "Howard the Coward".

Political Correctness Run Amok

Political Correctness in America today is totally out of control. I am tried of the increasing Orwellian society that our liberal friends are imposing on all of us. The tolerance of the left is nothing more than tyranny of intolerance. Offend any group that they view as disadvantaged or victimized and every effort will be made to censor or condemn the guilty party. There are however certain groups that does not fall under the left’s protection. By all means “make fun of” or criticize white males, Christians, southerners and black Republicans.

Remember when Harry Belafonte referred to Colin Powell as house help serving under his white master, President Bush. Our friends on the left did not call for sanctions against Mr. Belafonte. After all he was criticizing a black man who had sold his soul to those evil Republicans.

Another example of the liberal duplicity occurred recently at the University of Wisconsin. The administration at that university told a resident assistant that he could not hold a Bible study for dorm residents because students would become reluctant to approach him with their problems. The same administration praised another resident assistant for showing the “Vagina Monologues”. Those Christian ideas are too hostile to other students and out of the mainstream.

Recently at Amherst Regional High, Amherst New Hampshire the school administration decided to use the term ninth graders instead of freshman in all school documents and announcements. According to Assistant Principal Marta Guevara, who sponsored the change, the decision to move away from the term ”freshman” came as a result of a production of the “Vagina Monologues” two years ago. Guevara said the school want to make students aware of “possible misogynistic, oppressive or non-inclusive language." Does she really think students care? Get in touch lady.

The Washington Post reported that a high school band invited to play at the Peach Bowl has been forbidden from playing a Charlie Daniels song because it cross the line between church and state. The band wanted to play Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”. A local resident complained that the song was an insertion of faith and should not be allowed. The band director pulled the song.

The above are examples how Politically Correctness has reach the level of the absurd. It is time for all of this hyper-sensitivity to end. Personally I am politically incorrect and proud, but I am one of those evil Republican white male Christians who need to be feared. My wife however thinks I am a little fuzz ball.

Oklahoma State 24 Texas Tech 17

The Red Raider came to Stillwater with a high scoring powerful offense. Money on the street said the the Raiders would win. The Cowboys had other plans and sent the Raider home with an upset loss. The Cowboys under Coach Gundy have continue to improve each week and are no longer the Big 12 pushovers. SEE STORY

LSU 16 Alabama 13

Saturday afternoon Alabama and LSU fans were treated to a clash of SEC titans. The game was uncertain for a full 4 quarters. At the end of regulation play the score was knotted at 10 to 10. Then in overtime LSU won with a touchdown pass from JeMarcus to Dwayne Brown. Final score LSU 16 Alabama 13.

The game showcased two of the top defenses in the country and SEC. Both teams had SEC title hopes riding on the game. Some said even national championship hopes but I think that is a little much of stretch. The game statistics tell the story.

  • LSU 16 Alabama 20 first downs
  • LSU 275 Alabama 284 total rushing yards
  • LSU 229 Alabama 187 total passing yards
  • LSU 46 Alabama 97 yards rushing
  • LSU 6-64 Alabama 7-54 penalities
  • LSU 5-15 Alabama 5-17 3rd down conversions
  • LSU 1-1 Alabama 0-1 4 th down conversions
  • 0 turnovers for both teams
  • LSU 28:38 Alabama 31:22 time of possession

LSU chance for another SEC championship is now in their on hands.

T.O. KO'd

Terrell Owens was indefinitely suspended from the Philadelphia Eagles last week for criticizing his team for not recognizing his 100th touchdown catch. This is the latest antic of a talented but extremely narcissistic player. It is time someone said to Mr. Owens that enough is enough. Let just hope the Eagles "stand by their guns". The Story

Where Is Cindy

Hey has anyone seen my friend Cindy. She was suppose to tie herself to the White House fence until the last troops from Iraq were brought home. Maybe her statement was more about publicity and not about convictions. I guess she didn't get the media attention she wanted and decided why go to the trouble. After all rope might be getting to expensive.

Democratic Hypocrisy

This week Harry Reid and his fellow democratic senators hijacked the senate to do nothing more than to try to bloody the President's nose over the Scooter Libby indictment and their contention that the President "cooked" the intelligence about Iraq to lead us to war. Government at it's best...not! Mr Reid and his comrades are hoping that the American people do not remember what they had to say concerning Saddam Hussien years before US troops set foot on Iraq soil for a second time. So here is what they had to say:

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." - President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." - President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction." - Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."Letter to President Clinton. - (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." - Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them." - Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." - Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

So the logically conclusion is that if the President was lying so were the democrates. Oh, some may say that they were reling the intelligence that George Bush gave them, but some of the statements were made during the Clinton years. Face it the "Dems" can not have it both ways.
