LSU Routs Miami Canes in Peach Bowl

The Peach Bowl was sweet for LSU fans as the Tigers rout the Miami Hurricanes 40 to 03. This was Miami's worst bowl loss. The LSU offense, lead by Matt Flynn, cut through the venerated Cane defense like a hot knife through butter.

Flynn and the Tiger offense scored on eight straight possessions starting with with a field goal in the first quarter. Flynn completed 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards, two touchdown passes, no interceptions and was selected offensive MVP. Not bad for a first start.

Joseph Addai, LSU tailback, ran for a 130 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass to add to the Canes' misery. Jacob Hester, LSU fullback, rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown to round out the effort.
  • Total yards rushing: LSU 468, Miami 153
  • First Downs: LSU 26, Miami 6
  • Time of Possession: LSU 39:08, Miami 20:52

The Tigers looked well coached and played with more discipline than they have all season. Good job Coach Miles and Team.

First Baby Boomer Turns 60

I found a Fox News story this morning interesting, the first Baby Boomer turns 60 tomorrow. Her name is Kathleen Casey Kirschling and she was born onr minute after midnight January 1, 1946.

Since I am considered a Boomer myself and I am turning 54 myself today this story really makes me feel old.

American's Support the President's NSA Eavesdropping Operation

Despite the New York Times efforts to turn the American public against President Bush with the NSA electronic eavesdropping issue, a Scott Rasmussen Poll shows a vast majority support the President. The results of the poll:

  • Should the National Security Agency be allowed to intercept telephone conversations between terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States?

Yes 64 %

No 23 %

  • Is President Bush the first President to authorize a program for intercepting telephone conversations between terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States?

Yes 26 %

No 48 %

  • 81 % Republicans support the NSA operation, 51 % of Democrates and 57 % of Independents.

I am sure that the Gray Lady will see it as their responsibilty to change American opinion, so don't expect the story to go away. Remember the Times is always truthful.

Idiotarian Newspaper of Record

Michelle Malkin in an article penned on 12/28 makes a strong case demonstrating the bias of the New York Times against the Bush administration. In her article she shows how the Times has been caught on several occasions slanting the news to fit their left political agenda.

The Times no longer should be considered "the paper of record". See See Column

Media Bias In Iraq

I think many of us have felt that there has been a negative media bias in reporting as to the progress made in Iraq by the coalition forces.

I found a example of that bias as reported by a soldier's blog. The Blog

Lance Armstrong Awarded a Fourth Straight AP Athlete Honor

Lance Armstrong is awarded a fourth straight Male Athlete of the Year Award by Associated Press sports writers on Wednesday. This was in recognition of his seventh straight Tour De France win.

Armstrong is the only athlete to be selected for the award four times since the inception of the honor in 1931. The Texan received 30 out of the 83 votes. Reggie Bush of the USC Trojans came in second receiving 23 votes.

"It's nice to win," Armstrong said. "I'll never win again". Armstrong has now retired from professional cycling. "I may have to take up golf and take on Tiger" commented Armstrong. You know I bet he could.

Grateful Citizen Hands Out $5,000 in $20's to Soldiers and Families

Jim Johnson, a real estate developer from Dallas, was seen handing out with his son $5,000 in $20's to soldiers and their families at Wal Mart in Kileen, Texas. Kileen is the home of Fort Hood and is about 130 southwest of Dallas.

Mr. Johnson held a sign that said "grateful citizen". Johnson said " I just wanted to say thank you for your service" as he handed out the monetary gifts. "We're safe and secure because of you".

Johnson said in a story in last Thursday's Kileen Daily Herald, that he and his son Matt drove to Kileen in the hopes of meeting and shaking the hands of many soldiers or their families as possible.

Johnson said, "We all have ways to give back to these families that don't complain and serve". "It's a tough life, and I'm so grateful with what they do".

He promised to come back next year and bring some friends.

It's Coming On Christmas

In the Jonie Mitchell song "It's Coming On Christmas" she sing "it's coming on Christmas and I wish I had a river to skate away on". I imagine that this is the feeling of many people have this time of year. It could be for many of us, expectations of what the Christmas season will bring go unfulfilled each year.

I believe it is because we all have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. It is more than the giving and receiving gifts to and from friends and family members. It is more than political arguements over the secularism of the holidays and whether they are inclusive enough.

Then what are the holidays about? It is about a Promise Made and a Promise Kept. God promised man all through out the OLD TESTAMENT that He would send someone to restore their relationship after it had been broken by sin. A Savior that would allow man to be free from sin and have eternal life in the presence of God.

That promise was kept with the birth of Christ. The second chapter of Luke in the New Testamant recounts the story of the birth of Christ to Mary and Joeseph in Bethlehem. The night Christ was born angels came to shepards watching their flocks near by and said "Do not be afraid , I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people". "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." The Savior arrived and God kept his promise to restore man to Himself.

This was and is the ultimate Christmas gift. Man can live in a restored relationship to God and have eternal life. However like any gift the receiver must accept it. That is simply done by recognizing that we are sinful by nature and we need Christ as our Lord and Savior. All we need to do is to ask God to save us and he will. It is not something that can be accomplished by works, it can only be done by accepting his gift.

Christ can fulfill all unrealized expectations and He is our hope. I think we will get more out of Christmas if we keep that front and center in our minds. Merry Christmas, A Promise Made and A Promise Kept.

New Blog

On a personal note my Dad, Wilbur V. Rogers, will start publishing a blog on the exploits of the USS Foote DD-511 during WW II. The Foote was a Fletcher class destoryer stationed in the South Pacific and was the ship that my Dad spent his four years of service on during the war. The URL is www.ussfoote.blogspot.com.

President Bush Not First To Use Warrantless Electronic Searches

Prior adminstrations plus the court that overseas national security cases agree with the Bush adminstrations position that the President may legally approve searches without warrants in pursuit of foreign intelligence according to a Washington Times article by Charles Hurt published on December 22, 2005.

Clinton Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick in testimony before the House Permanant Select Committee on Intelligence in 1994 said " the Department of Justice believes - and case law supports - that the President has inherent authority to conduct warrantless physical searches for foreign intelligence purposes and that the President may as he has done, delegate this authority to the attorney general. This authority includes electronic surveillance including wiretaps. See the Story

President Bush Comes Out Swing

During Monday's press conference, President Bush came out swing. He called the leak of the NSA eavesdropping program by the New York Time last week a "shameful act" in a time of war. "The fact that we are discussing this program is helping the enemy" President Bush told reporters. He also said that the "program has targeted those with known links to Al Qaeda"

President Bush also let reporters know that the Justice Department will likely investigate who leaked information about the NSA program.

The President also pointed out he had the legal authority to order the surveillance under Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution giving the President the authorization to deal with an enemy who declares war against the United States. The President noted that a phone call from someone in Al Qaeda here to someone in Al Qaeda overseas could cost thousands of American lives.

The President pointed out that the 9/11 Commission said that the intelligence community needs to better connect the dots before the enemy strikes again. That is what the NSA program was trying do.

In my opinion it was nice to see the President fighting back against those who are more interested in bring him down rather than protecting the country. Keep at it Mr. President.

What A Way To Find A Husband

Hundreds of Isreali women have been placing their underwear on a line over the tomb of a venerated rabbi in hopes that their marriage prayers will be answered.

This has to be the "weird story" of the week.

The Media Top 10 Economics Myths of 2005

I ran across an article on the Media Research Center's website entitled The Top Ten Economic Myths of 2005. The myths are noted below:

  • America should follow French fashion in business.
  • We must raise taxes to cope with ballooning deficits.
  • Global warning is causing stronger hurricanes.
  • America is cheap with it's foreign aid.
  • Hurricane Katrina will send the economy into a tailspin.
  • The housing bubble is about to burst.
  • American's are dying to be fat.
  • Consumers are choosing between food and fuel.
  • Big profitable companies are up to no good.
  • The U.S. economy is hopeless.

As each myth is enumerated the author provides the associated truth and exposes the underlying falsehood of each. See the Story

Cindy Carries Her Show To Spain

Cindy Sheehan takes her road show to Madrid, Spain, leading a protest of about 100 people outside the U.S. Embassy against the war in Iraq. Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq as a U.S. soldier, called George Bush a war criminal and said Iraq was "worst than Vietnam". This lady is so over the top that she is pathetic.

In my opinion, by taking her protest abroad, she is flirting with treason and should not be allowed back into the country.

Excuse me Cindy but how is George Bush a war criminal and how is Iraq worst than Vietnam. Your arguements are antedotial, where are the facts.

Hey Cindy the Vietnam War is over. Get over it. Iraq is not Vietnam, just ask millions of Iraqi citizens who are now free, no longer live under a vicious dictator and just established their first freely elected government. Yeah that is pretty bad stuff.

Oh by the way, has anybody looked, is Cindy's book on the New York Times Best Seller's List. Answer, No!!!! Maybe no one cares what she has to say.

A Politician With A Backbone

Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut (Dem) gets the "Politician With A Backbone" award this week for supporting the Presidents position on Iraq despite the general position of his party. Many in Senator Liebermans party criticize him and say he is just trying to curry favor with the administration to be tapped for the Secretary of Defense job if Rummy retires later this year as rumored. The Senator has categorically said he is not interested in the job.

Senator Lieberman understands that his fellow Democrates are undermining "the President's credibility at our nation's peril". Mr. Lieberman realizes there is a time to put the "national good and defense" above party politics. The Senator's position is not the result of a recent change of heart. In 1991 he supported the first Gulf War and in 1998 he and Senator John McCain proposed the Iraq Liberation Act which made the overthrow of Saddam Hussien a national policy.

Even though I don't agree with Senator Lieberman on many issues I do admire his willingness to take a position supporting the President on the war and not bow to pressure from his on party.

Congressional War Leadership

Some People Will Just Never Change

John Kerry on 'Face the Nation' Sunday told Bob Schieffer that "there was no reason for U.S. soldiers to continue to terrorizing Iraqi children". Mr. Kerry statements are reminiscent of his testimony on the Vietnam war before Congress in 1971 where he charged American soldiers of rape, mutilation and torture. Just think this man wanted to be our Commander and Chief.

Howard Dean Has Declared Victory For Terrorist In Iraq

Howard Dean in comments made in an interview on WOAI Radio in San Antonio Texas recently declared victory for the terrorist in Iraq. He said " the idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong". Mr. Dean has just said the United States will be defeated and should surrender and bring our troops home. What is the effects of such a statement?

  1. It does nothing to bolster the morale of the troops in theater. Ask any soldier and they will tell you it it much easier to carry out the mission if the troops know that the public and political leadership are behind them. It is just human nature that all of us will do a better job and feel that our efforts are worthwhile and meaningful if we have the support of others. Statements like Mr. Deans and other Democrates do nothing but undermine the support for the mission and the efforts of our soldiers.
  2. It emboldens the terrorist to fight on. They know that the real battle is being fought by US policymakers and in the US media for the hearts and minds of the American people. Once support is lost at home, the radical Islamist know that American troops will soon leave because America will no longer have the will to see the mission through. Statements like Mr. Dean's encourages them to bide their time.
  3. Mr. Dean's and other like statements by Democrates undermine American credibility abroad. Other countries begin to wonder whether or not we can be counted on, if we will do what we say we will do and see it to the end. Once credibility is lost then we loose respect and our ability to influence world events.

If people like Mr. Dean gain control of this country America will be headed for dark days. We need to all realize that as President Reagan noted "peace can only come through strength". America will only see the end of terrorism if she stands fast and sees the mission through. Thank God Mr. Dean is not President.

Cartoon of the Week

LSU 14 GEORGIA 34

How many of you ever heard you track coach in High School tell you to run for the tape. You never stop runing until the tape is broken. After the Arkansas game Thanksgiving week it seemed to me that the Tigers had taken their foot off the pedal and were just trying to coast to the end. As a Tiger fan, a purple and gold bleeder , I knew the Tigers would not beat "them Dawgs" last night when they met to determine the SEC championship. I don't know what it was but you could just feel defeat right around the corner for the Bengals.

If you look at the statistics some might think the game ahould have been closer than a 20 oint spread in the end. A closer gives a hint as to why the "Dawgs" won. LSU only posted 74 yards rushing and committed 9 penalities for 78 yards. Under LSU offensive game plan you can not have the run shut down and expect to win. As all season, penalities have shown that the Tigers have not been discipline in their play execution and on Saturday night it caught up with them.

Georgia defense was on their game and knocked JeMarcus Russell, LSU QB out of the game late in the third quarter.

As the Tigers were loosing Les Miles stood on the sidelines comatose, no excitement whatsoever. Give me some passion for "crying out loud". Saban would have been giving everyone with 90 feet a "good ole fashion" %^#$ chewing, but "ole Les" looks like he is about to fall asleep. I just hope we are not entering another Gerry DeNardo era.
