Carville Said Blanco Did Well In Katrina Disaster
In an interview this week with Channel 2 News in Baton Rouge, James Carville, the "motor mouth" of the Democatic Party, was reported as saying that Louisana Gov. Kathleen Blanco handled the Katrina disaster well. To be more specific Carville said Blanco did as well as she could under the circumstances.
I think the operative part of the "ragin cajin's" statement was "as well as she could". Another way to interpret that part of the statement is that Gov. Blanco did the best she could with her abilities. In her cases the Governor has demonstrated that her leadership and decision making abilities were limted or incompetent at best. During most of the disaster she looked like a "deer caught in the headlights", unsure and indecisive. Her indecision cost people their lives.
In the same interview Carville tries to provided the Governor some cover by saying "once your under water your kind of doomed". "A flood is a hard thing to look good in." Well maybe the Governor could have minimized the effects of a flooded New Orleans by adequately planning for such disaster and executing the plan. After all it has been known for years that New Orleans was vunerable to massive flooding as the result of a strike from a class three or stronger hurricane. It is ultimately a state Governor's responsibility to protect state citizens and Blanco failed miserably.
Mr Carville statements are far from the truth. As we say in Texas, "that dog won't hunt".

The New "CNN"
CNN the new network that many conservatives liked to refer to as "Clinton News Network" seems to be taking a more conservative bent. In recent weeks CNN has announced that Glen Beck, J. C. Watts and Bill Bennet will be added as news contributors.
CNN needed to do something because Fox News was burying it in the prime time news ratings. The question is, by adding a conservative radio talk host, a former black conservative congressman and a conservative thinker will the network be able to stop the bleeding.
Even with these additions the Atlanta based network will be a long way from "fair and balanced". They still will have their "liberal bench" such as Paula Zahn, James Carvelle, Paul Begala, Larry King and Anderson Cooper. However maybe we can expect fewer X's flashed on the Vice Presidents face when he is giving a speech.

Waffle King
Appearing on ABC "This Week" John Kerry said he thought the President's authorization of the NSA eavesdropping program was illegal. However when asked by George Stephanopoulos if the Senator was willing to cut off funding for the program Kerry responded that it would premature to do so.
I guess that is like when Senator Kerry said I was against the war in Iraq before I voted for the war in Iraq. John you are still the "Waffle King".

Alito and Bin Laden
It seems that national and world events in the last couple of weeks have aligned against the Democrats in Washington. The two events that stand out are the Judge Alito Supreme Court confirmation hearings and the latest video by Osama Bin Laden. These two events have reinforced in the minds of many Americans the perception that the Democrats are a party of obstructionist and weak on national security issues.
In the confirmation hearing, the Democratic members of the Judicial Committee, tried to discredit Judge Alito with charges of racism and bigotry. At one point the charges were so upsetting that Mrs. Alito left the gallery in tears. That image painted the picture of Democrats as a party that is vicious, vindictive and willing to do anything to gain political advantage. Many Americans found their tactics to be “over the top”.
When Osama Bin Laden’s tape aired this week it sounded as if he had borrowed some of the same talking points that Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean and John Kerry have used in their stance regarding the war on terrorism. Bin Laden’s tape reminded us that we are all at risk and this concern was reflected in the financial markets on Friday. Americans see Democrats as weak on national security and trust the Republicans to protect them from terrorism.
These events and others continue to show how the Democrats continue to fall out of step with mainstream American. They have become hostage to the extreme left of their party and are on the verge of becoming irrelevant.

Thought For The Day
Tax season is upon us and Uncle Sam wants his due and more. Has anyone notice that if you combine the words "The IRS" you get the following:
"THEIRS"
When Will Some Democrates Act Like Adults
Samuel Alito's confirmation is a sure thing, but some Democrates on the Judicary Committee are acting like children who have not gotten their way. Senator Leahy (D)of Vermont and the ranking minority leader on the committee indicates there will be a delay of the committee's vote. The vote was schedule for Tuesday but Leahy said many of his party members on the committee could not get back in times after going home for the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday. This is after he made an agreement regarding a set confirmation schedule with Committee Chairman Arlan Specter (R), Penn., back in in the fall.
Based on his answers in the hearing Judge Alito will be a conservative member of the court but may not be as conservative as Thomas or Scilia. However this should not be the basis for non-confirmation.
By delaying a vote out of committee and the inevitable, Democrates are acting like children who do not get their way and go to their rooms to sulk. It is about time they start acting like adults for a change rather than spoil brats.

Vince Young Headed for 2006 NFL Draft
n
After his performance in the Rose Bowl Vince Young has decided to enter the 2006 NFL. His "stock" could not be higher and this is the most logical time for him to cash in on his exceptional talent.
The only question now is where will he go in draft. Most of the Houston sports fans would like him to come to the Texans. They hope the Texans could trade Carr for at least 2 much needed offensive linemen. I personally think the Texans will still take Reggie Bush.
One thing is for certain there will be many fans of other Big 12 teams that will be glad to see him go. The Texas Longhorns will hate to see him leave but I am sure they wish him the best.

Lynn Swann Announces He Will Run for PA. Governor
Lynn Swann, former Steeler receiver and Hall of Famer, announced Wednesday that he will seek the Republican nomination for the Pennsylvania governor's office. Swann will have to face 3 other candidates for the Republican nomination in a May 16 primary.
The former footbal star told the Associated Press, in an interview on Wednesday, that he decided to run in the fall after weighing support at different events around the state.
If he wins the Republican nomination in May, he would likely face Governor Ed Rendell ( D ) who is likely to seek a second four year term.
If elected Swann would be the state's first black Governor.
Horn Fans Will Be Saying "Vince Say It's Not So"
A topic around the office water cooler the last couple of days is will Vince Young come out and enter the NFL draft.
One opinion is that Vince will play another year at Texas to get a shot at the Heisman again. In addition the timing is not right because he would go third in the draft behind Bush and Leinart and not command as much money as the two USC stars.
Well I say nonsense, he will go in the draft this year. Why risk getting hurt next year or simply having a bad year and having your stock go down in the eyes of the NFL scouts. Vince will take the money now. Beside what is a few millions among friends.
Judge Alito Get Highest Bar Rating
The Associated Press is reporting that Samuel Alito, President Bush's Supreme Court nominee, received an unanimous well-qualified rating from the American Bar Association on Wednesday. This vote of confidence by the ABA should give Judge Alito a great deal of momentum as the Senate prepares for confirmation hearing next week.
The offical vote from the ABA will be delivered to the Senate on Monday as the hearing begin.
There will be the usual posturing by the Democrates on the Committee but Alito will be recommended for approval and will be conformed by the Senate.

Predictions for 2006
Now that 2005 is in the books, I have some predictions for 2006:
- President's Bush approval rating will hover between 50 & 55 %.
- Congress will hold hearing on the NSA eavesdropping program, but Democrates will been seen as the party more interested in being down President Bush than protecting the country from terrorist.
- It will be left for the US, UK and Isreal to deal with the Iranian nuclear program.
- Iraq democracy will grow and US will begin to draw down troops to about 95,000 soldiers.
- 2006 hurricane season will not be as active 2005.
- Texas will win the Rose Bowl, finally putting to an end to all the hype about USC.
- Despite it's poor performance at the box office, Brokeback Mountain will take home "Best Picture" of the year.
- Judge Sam Alito will be approved as the next Supreme Court Judge.
Texans' Head Coach Given Pink Slip
As predicted yesterday by the Houston Chronicle, Dom Capers head coach of the Texans was fired on Monday. Capers said he came in to win and never changed his approach since he became head coach of the Texans. He also felt that somethings were out of his control, but he did not elaborate.
One thing he said he was most proud of the team and the coaching staff for was that no one fell into the trap of the blame game.
As for loosing the last game intentionly to win the number one draft pick, he said that his team wanted to end the season with a win.
It is also likely that the defensive and offensive coordinators will also be sent packing. General Manager Charley Casserly will stay on.

Casserly Stays, Capers Goes
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Charley Casserly, Houston Texans General Manager, will stay into next season, but head coach Dom Capers will receive his pink slip tomorrow.
Bob McNair, Texans owner, brought Dan Reeves in to look at the player selected by Casserly over the past several years. Evidently Reeves felt that the Texans has the personnel to win and the problem lay elsewhere. Therefore Casserly will survive and Capers will hit the unemployment line. The Story
